As I've mentioned before, I am in the process of getting a second passport. It's not just because I want to reconnect with the nation of my grandmother's birth, but it's also due to politics in the USA.

I've said many times that the Orange Snowflake is a threat to us all. First, he has targeted transgenders. Now, he's going after many of the Federal workers which help keep this nation running smoothly. As I like to describe it, he's on his 2025 revenge tour for his loss in 2020. He is not as popular as he once was, and the polling over the past few weeks shows a precipitous drop in public approval.
So what does this mean?
If history is my guide, he will use political persecution as a means of distracting the public from the greater evil he is trying to hide. As for me, I intend to have an exit plan, just in case things get much worse than they are now.
Right now, I am following this guide from one of the nations that I qualify for overseas birth citizenship:
- Completed, signed and witnessed application form (see list of witnesses at 1 above)
- Original civil birth certificate (showing parental details)
- Original civil marriage certificate (if applicable) OR other change of name document (if applicable)
- Photocopy of current state-issued photographic ID document (i.e. passport, drivers licence, national identity card) certified as a true copy of the original by application form witness
- 2 separate original proofs of address
- 4 colour photographs (2 of which to be witnessed) – do not attach these to the application form
- Documents relating to the xxxxx Citizen parent (unless stated, originals must be submitted):
Original civil birth certificate of xxxxx Citizen parent (showing parental details)
- Original civil marriage certificate of xxxxx Citizen parent (if applicable) OR other change of name document (if applicable)
- Photocopy of current state-issued photographic ID document (i.e. passport, drivers license, national identity card) certified as a true copy of the original by a professional from the list of witnesses OR original civil death certificate (if applicable)
- Documents relating to the grandparent born in xxxxx (unless stated, originals must be submitted):

I'm glad to hear things are moving on this, Marian. It's a pity that, like me, you feel you have to do it for negative reasons. Please allow for extra delays as the system becomes flooded with applications from the US all of a sudden.
I am trying to keep the Rabid Squalling Orange Baby out of my mind as much as is possible but it's not easy. Trump's method of tackling falling polls is to shout more of the inhuman stuff his crazy followers love, and they're getting crazier every day. I tell you, the US has hit an existential crisis that it's unlikely to survive intact. I wish you well.

Given what the Orange Snowflake is doing, I feel that I have to play it safe and have an escape option. This means having a place to escape to. As authoritarian cults become more powerful, they tend to find new scapegoats to attack as their economies start falling apart. They attack enemies from within, and incarcerate them with ever more dehumanizing treatments.
If European Jews didn't get out of Central Europe by the mid 1930's, their fates were often sealed, along with the homosexuals, transgenders, mentally/physically disabled, and political dissidents. We're seeing the same signs in the United States right now, where those who are not of the cult are afraid of the cult's ability to attack them. So, when in doubt - have a way out.
I agree with you regarding an existential crisis in my country. Yet, we still have some hope. Canada shouldn't think that they are immune from the Snowflake's evil. Years ago, the US had drawn up plans to fight wars against 3 major powers, one of them being the then British Empire. This involved an invasion of Canada in 3 areas. I am still looking for information regarding US plans for what would happen if Francophone Quebec declared its independence from Anglophone Canada. Quebec would need help from the US to survive as an independent nation, something we would not likely give. Canada, as a result, would likely fall apart. What would happen then? But I worry about a repeat of Germany's annexation of Austria. That's the last type of unification I'd want for the US and Canada.
The way I see history, we could be repeating what happened in Europe centuries ago. Greek culture shifted west, with Rome being a natural center for an empire. As Rome became too big to govern, its political system too weak to handle transitions between emperors, and its social/political system being unable to debate real issues intelligently, Rome had to spit itself in two. Rome had a western capital (Rome, itself) and an eastern capital (Constantinople). Western Rome died roughly 1,000 years before Eastern "Rome". The same shift may be happening, with Anglo-American/European dominance of the world.
Europe has to defend itself against of the loss of America's support (military, commerce, technology), as well as against the Russian desire to restore the USSR in all but name). Russia is a failed empire that got lucky in having a Russian asset become president of the US. It won the lotto. This destabilizes the world, and can result in world war 3. Europe must defend Ukraine at all costs - or, at least, until the USA regains its sanity and removes the GOP from control of the government.
My advice for European leaders - contradict Trump in public every time they are with him. Macron showed Trump to be the ass he is. Do it early and often. Followers of the Trump cult will continue to excuse him. They are hopeless, the same as the devout Nazis during the "reign" of the Third Reich. But us who see the truth need encouragement from the truly free world that this too shall pass. Europe, Canada and Mexico have a duty to remind us Americans who could not support Trump that the free world knows we are hostages in a war between good and evil.
Hopefully, good will win out.
