It's War! It's War!

As I write this, It's almost been a week since we've been at war with Iran, and I see no viable end in sight.  Yes, it could have ended if we (I should say, the Israelis with US help) didn't kill off much of the Iranian leadership who could negotiate with us.  But without a clear objective, war becomes open-ended, and can last for years "if needed".

Has anyone noticed that the two wars that the Orange Monster had been involved in both involve OIL producing nations?  Yes, Iran has been a sponsor of terrorism.  Yes, Venezuela has been a thorn in our side.  But did we need to go to war to deal with these countries?  I don't think so.  In the case of Iran, I think that the Israelis have gotten us into a quagmire.  First, we will bomb the hell out of Iran.  Then, when we haven't crushed them, it will be our boots on the ground, and our boys coming home in body bags.

Given the lack of long term thinking in our current administration, I think the four defenders of Freedonia pictured above could do a better job of running our country. And Rufus T. Firefly (the gentleman with the mustache in the picture) could have made a better president than the one we have now.  Sadly, he passed away roughly 50 years ago.

In an age of increasing inflation, I'm pretty sure that a President Firefly would take Capt. Jeffrey T. Spaulding's advice for fighting inflation and replace the discontinued penny with a seven cent nickel. In his day, one could buy a two cent newspaper and get the same nickel back in change.  Capt. Spaulding noted that: "One nickel, used wisely, could last a family a lifetime."

Sadly, war is not a laughing matter, and 6 service members have already come home in flag draped coffins.  Our president did not even have the courtesy to pay proper respects to men who gave their lives as their coffins left the plane, as he didn't take off his tacky white baseball cap emblazoned with the letters USA in gold.  Is it too much for us to ask that a president actually give a damn about the lives being lost in war, instead of displaying his Merchandise for all to see?

I think I can put a spreadsheet to rest for now

Over the past couple of weeks, I've been working on a spreadsheet (with formulas) which will allow one to compute the approximate real per-person cost of a cruise.  My problem with creating the spreadsheet is that I've never had to build something this complex before in Excel.  My thought processes towards computing values are akin to programmers who use procedural programming languages, where one could use "IF Statements"  (IF test, true condition statements, false condition statements) to do the work, where in spreadsheets, it is often easier to put key tests into separate cells.  So, when I find commonality between cruise line calculations, I reorganize the spreadsheet to simplify processing and make it easier to manage.

This work has been a tedious process, and is still subject to revision.  It has kept me busy to the extent where I've decided not to go outside when the weather looked nice, and instead focused on the work that needed to be done to complete basic work to fix known bugs, so that it can be used by others.

- - - - - -

Why do something like this?

In retirement, people still need challenges to keep their brains alert.  Current day politics strain my sense of well being, as I react poorly to falsehoods in the news.  The Orange Snowflake and his cronies do not care about objective truth.  They change the lies they tell and do not back down from their lies.  So, listening to the news becomes a soul suck for me, as well as something that can make me get angry.  As a result, I have to find ways to distract me from paying too much attention to the lunacy going on in the world, and focus on something which depends on objective truths and falsehoods.

My next step with my cruise blog still depends on objective truths - going back to the online classes on video production, and starting to record VLog entries to post on YouTube.  I do not intend to post anything with Marian's image for now.  It will be hard enough for me to post things as Mario, as I do not yet have a screen presence or screen personality.  But that will come with practice and experience.

In the end, I will maintain my sanity by doing things which allow me to maintain a healthy balance in life.  The outside world is going nuts, and I need to maintain a healthy mental balance to maneuver in today's insanity.  One has to see truth, and stay off the radar of the lunatics in charge of the asylum, while making plans to get as far away as possible before everything burns down around us.

What happens when the highlight of the day is bed time?

As I write this, the US war against Iran is in its 3rd day.  Our president has made the major mistake of having peace talks while preparing to bomb a country.  America is about to get into another Vietnam, without any of the support it could have had if this were a just cause.  To make things worse, it feels like the war was started to cover up the Monster's presence in the Epstein Files. I wonder how many people will die because this madman wants to have a legacy that survives him

Why did I open with this?

Over the weekend, the most common thing in our YouTube feeds were talking heads and their discussions about the war.  It's hard to escape the insanity that is going on in the "Real World" when a madman's fancies are destroying everything America stood for.  I'm glad that my nephew is out of the military, as he'd be part of the cannon fodder the Monster is using to achieve his goals.

Neither RQS nor I bothered getting dressed today.  It rained a little and the snow has melted a bit.  Soon, parking will be "easy" to find as before the snow storms hit.  Today was one of our relaxation days where we did nothing, save for having breakfast and dinner.  I shouldn't say we did absolutely nothing - RQS finished the reorganization of her storage shelves, and things are much easier for her to get at.

Part of me is looking forward to going home tomorrow.  My reasons are simple - I want to get back to work on my cruise cost calculation spreadsheet, and I can only work on it at home.  This has been a fun project for me, and something I will likely keep playing with as time progresses.  I already have some enhancements I'd like to work on that would make the spreadsheet much more useful.  But it will take some time to implement them.

My brother looks like he'll have a new job, and it looks like we have new tenants for the family homestead.  Although we will have money coming in, we will either need to reinvest it in the house, or let the next owner do so.  I'd have rather sold the property, but the timing of everything is fouling that plan up for now.  Assuming he has the new job, I'll get together with him for a last dinner before he moves out of town.  Yes, he'll be returning home to check on things now and then, but things won't be the same as before.  I'll likely get stuck managing the property - something I don't relish doing.

At least, we caught up on our sleep for a change....

A trip into the city for a play

No, we did not pass through Grand Central today.  But it would have been nice if we were able to do so.  Instead, our route brought us to a subway station I've never used before, as well as an area of the city I've never been to before on foot.

- - - - - -

When we woke up, neither of us had an idea of what we wanted to do.  So, RQS looked up the "Freebies" available on Club Free Time to find something cheap.  Settling on a play called "The Giggling Granny", we planned our day around our evening's entertainment.

RQS wanted to reorganize her kitchen a little, and have me help with fixing shelving that needed fixing.  (Its fourth corner was improperly supported, and could collapse with the right force used against it.)  So, we took everything out, and I inserted the support which leveled things out.  Now, RQS can reload the shelves at her own convenience.

What I haven't mentioned yet, is that the Orange Monster started an illegal war today against Iran.  Yes, it is a desperate attempt to distract people from the Epstein Files, but it poses great risk to the USA and to the world.  Both RQS and I are appalled - even though the Iranian government deserves to be destroyed.  Yet, it shows something else - the Orange Monster never negotiates in good faith.  The Iranians believed that they were close to an agreement.  (Too bad for them that they never read Ambrose Bierce and his Devil's Dictionary.  They'd see that Peace is only a period of treachery between two wars.)

With all of this in mind, we both got dressed and went into NYC.  Sadly, I was semi conscious during the play, and missed most of it.  On the way back to the subway station, we stopped for gelato.  And then we passed by two one-dish restaurants - one selling pasta, and the other selling Mac & Cheese.  Both of these are places I want to try some time in the future.

Soon, we were on the train back home, and back in the apartment for SNL's cold open.  One could tell that they had to rewrite everything to account for the big news of the day, and they referenced themselves in the skit.  Once Weekend Update (the Real Fake News) was over, we turned off the TV and went to bed for the night.

Come fly away, come fly away with me.

The other day, I was at a meetup where I felt a woman was trying too hard to make me into her travel partner.  If I wasn't happily attached, I'd have considered the possibility of traveling with her, but I'd have to tell her that I'm non-op trans - and that would be a big risk factor I'm glad I didn't have to address.

- - - - - -

RQS and I are halfway through paying for our next cruise, and I think we'll be done by mid April.  Come hell or high water, we will make all of our payments by final payment date.  But even with that issue having to be addressed first, I've started to look at cruises taking place in 2027, specifically ones that sail from mainland Europe then going to Iceland and back.

Now that RQS has seen Rick Steves' video on Iceland, I think RQS is starting to understand why this remote place, a land of fire and ice, is on my bucket list.   Like Norway and its Fjords, Iceland has places to see which are unlike any other place on earth.  I want to visit while we're both able to do so, as old age is rapidly creeping up on us.

One of the things I've found out about Iceland is that it seems LGBT friendly.  I could see flying to Amsterdam, cruising to Iceland and back, all in Marian mode.  Right now, I doubt that I'd do this with the current political climate in the US, but one can dream.  (As I write this, the Orange Monster, in his SOTU address, attacked us TG's once again.  Who wants to take a risk with TSA/CBP personnel right now, as they are hassling more and more people - including Americans.)

Hopefully, by the time I book this cruise, I will have my second citizenship and my second passport.  I'd like to fly into Europe without having to bother with ETA paperwork, being treated as if I were a citizen returning home.

Some thoughts on current events

The longer the Orange Monster stays in office, the more I'm afraid that he'll have enough time to turn this nation into a dictatorship.  The media is either afraid to lose access to key government personnel, or simply afraid of being put out of business by this regime.  Fox "News" is owned by an oligarch who wants to destroy liberal institutions.  CBS is now owned by another oligarch with similar political views.  It's a damned shame that a bandit capitalist class is working to exterminate liberal democracy.

Whether of not the bandit capitalist class succeeds in the US, the American empire will have left something of great value to the world: An economic structure where David Ricardo's ideas of capitalism based on comparative advantage and free trade has been adopted by most of the world's most powerful economies.  Each nation does what it does best, and prospers because of this.

The orange monster believes that the US can stand alone.  (I'm giving him credit for a belief system that he probably doesn't have.)  Seeing what North Korea and its Juche philosophy has done to that nation, I expect to see the fall of America in my lifetime.  What will happen next?  Who knows?  But I know that we have helped democracy flourish around the world, and that the American empire has left the world better off than when we entered this stage of its existence.

Luckily, we are seeing a rebellion from below.  Power is not centralized in one level of government.  The states are resisting the monster's grab for absolute power.  Democrats in the Senate have checked the power of the orange monster by denying funding to DHS and ICE.  TSA officials at airports will not get paid while this pissing match between the Democratic party and the Orange Monster has ended.  Although ICE has 75 billion to piss away, the Coast Guard does not.  In short, the Democratic party is shutting down a key area of government to cause as much pain as they can for the GOP.  The Democrats simply want ICE officers to follow the same standards that most police officers have to follow - to be identifiable, so that rogue officers can be identified; to have people in ICE detention have the right to Habeas Corpus; and to have only judicial warrants used for detaining people. I may not be phrasing everything correctly, but the Democrats want to make sure that ICE follows all of the laws, and recognize the constitutional rights afforded to all residents in our country.

Sadly, I see events in America being a race against time.  How much damage can the monster do to keep his opposition from gaining power on January 3, 2027?  Can we prevent him from doing so?  When we have someone like Pam Bondi excuse the Jeffrey Epstein cover up by citing a Dow Jones Average over $50,000.  It's sick, and it shows that a large part of America no longer cares about anything but fluffing up their bank accounts. I hope to see America regain its sanity before I die...

Help with healthcare. (A short post)

I was appalled with Obamacare subsidies were cut in the Orange Monster's favorite bill.  Today, I'm not going to comment on this man's evil nature.  Instead, I'm providing a link to a website, where help for paying for Medicare can be found.

Hopefully, my readers will pass this link to those in need.

It's amazing how evil our president is (a short post)

It's hard to believe how ugly this man's soul must be.  I've been totally disgusted with this poor excuse for a member of our species for a long while now.  He has no standards, and yet, he's still in charge of our government. He has turned a division of our government into his own Gestapo.  He has destroyed the department of justice.  He is destroying our economy.  And yet, he is still in power.

Like many TG people, I am avoiding the headaches of coming into contact with Federal government officials while presenting as Marian.  Next year, I will be trying to renew my US passport, hoping that I have not been placed on our government's blacklist.  (Yes, citizens with some names, mostly Middle-East/Arab in nature, are being prevented from getting passports.)  My desire is to be able to leave this country when I can, just in case the remaining safeguards that preserve our freedoms fail.

Assuming that the Democratic party regains control of the House of Representatives in the 2026 elections, I see one way that he (and the rest of his regime) can be forced out in 2027 - denying the government for funding of any of its functions.  The Orange Monster has destroyed the rule of law.  So, why not deny the government the money to pay any of its employees, essential or not.  What would happen if the government was shut down for months?  Would the military stay on duty?  What about Air Traffic Control?  So many parts of government would cease to function when people stopped showing up for work.

But how could this force the monster out?

The answer is simple.  The Democrats in the House could say that both the President and the Vice President MUST resign before they will allow the government to be funded.  The Speaker of the House, a Democrat, becomes president, and then he can start work on cleaning up the monster's mess.  Even better than this, he could serve for a little under 10 years, as he could be elected to 2 terms in his own right.

If money makes the world go round, then the people who control the money can control its spin....

Happy Valentine's Day!

And now for a different take on this day...

97 years ago, Al Capone engineered the consolidation of the Chicago recreational substances and services industry.  It is because of this entrepreneur that in spite of a corrupt government's interest in keeping the Windy City drier than the Sahara Desert, this man was able to make sure that no thirst on any side of "The Loop" went unquenched.

For most people, Valentine's Day is a day where chocolates and flowers are given to women, where couples go out for fancy dinners, and where most American males have a good chance of getting satisfied. With my strange sense of humor, I focus on the Chicago mob and Prohibition.  It seems like the more the government tries to enforce moral standards, the more that they end up triggering the behaviors they are trying to stop.

In a way, this is what will happen to the LGBTIQ community.  The more that the Orange Snowflake tries to erase us from existence, the more likely our numbers will grow underground and in the closet.  Yes, we will not be able to be our authentic selves.  But most of us will be able to keep things hidden until this wave of evil passes on.  Many of us will suffer in the meantime - needlessly.  Sadly, this is what happens on the cusp of a social collapse.

Many of don't yet see the signs of this collapse.  Yet they are visible to those who look.  The Social Security system is woefully underfunded, and Congress is failing to act.  What will happen when tomorrow's retirees lose 25% of the money they were promised by the government upon retirement.  What if you don't need Social Security?  Well, our current political regime is intent to inflate the currency to pay our debts.  We've seen what happened to Germany in the 1920's when this was attempted.  Then, we are destroying the education system, along with government funded scientific research.  How can a country earn its keep and maintain its position in the world without being at the top of the knowledge economy?

I'm afraid this country is making many of the same mistakes that Germany made 95 years ago.  I just wonder - what country (or region) will become the next great superpower in this world?  This is the time to start looking for that country and having a migration plan to get there - and soon.

I stayed at home and stayed warm

This was a day to stay inside.  Outside, a strong chill was in the air, and I wanted no part of it.  So, I stayed inside, comfy in my jammies, and worked on updating my cruising related blog to reflect current conditions.

Sooner or later, I have to catch up on chores, laundry being one of them.  That will likely happen tonight, as I will be busy tomorrow and Friday.  Although the sun is out as I write this entry, I will likely get showered and dressed, then go out as Mario due to tomorrow's doctor appointment in the morning.

- - - - - -

As I write this, it is the end of January 2026.  Recent developments make me feel that it's time to start activating one's exit plan. The Orange Snowflake's Gestapo (ICE) has attempted to invade a foreign consulate today.  Foreign governments no longer believe that America will follow the rules based order that it established after WW2.  The regime now covers up murder by its Gestapo, and we have no respect (as a nation) from anyone outside our borders.  The rule of law is being replaced by the rule of a despot.  And this is our warning sign.

If my foreign citizenship (foreign birth registry) paperwork was fully processed, I'd have my foreign passport and be ready to move everything liquid (money) outside the US at a moment's notice.  I want to be on one of the last planes out, in a comfortable seat, before everything collapses here.

Keep your fingers crossed, I'm hoping to have tickets for one of the last planes.

Preparing for the dumping of the white stuff, with a touch of sadness at the end.

The above is the scene after a snowstorm we had years ago.  It doesn't look like that much compared to what we're expecting to get sometime tomorrow.  Right now, many people in my complex have moved their cars to the street, parking on the grass, with some cars having their driver's side wheels on the paved shoulder.  (It's technically illegal, but in Stormy weather, who cares?)  Yet, there's not enough off-road room for 120+ cars in our complex to be moved out of our driveways and parking lots.  So, the snowplows that will come sometime on Sunday through early Monday will have their work cut out for them.

I was mostly prepared for the storm before the weekend.  Yet, I had gone to the store a few times, picking up a few items I would need to have good, hearty meals while stuck indoors.  The last time that I saw supermarket meat counters this empty was during Covid - which just happens to be when the last major  snowstorm hit.

- - - - - -

And now for some sad news...

No, I am not going to mention the second ICE murder in Minnesota.  The Orange Snowflake and his demonic minions killed someone whose potential threat (a legal gun) was removed from him before they shot him.  I've had enough of our dictator wannabe for now.  Instead, I'm going to mention the loss of a minor NYC area personality - Uncle Floyd.  The best way to describe him is a 1920's vaudeville comic who took lessons from Soupy Sales, having a show on a ultra low power, ultra low budget UHF station. (Think of the UHF station from the movie UHF, and you'll get an idea of the station carrying Floyd Vivino's show.)

Last night, I was surfing YouTube videos, and found that Uncle Floyd died the day before. Unfortunately, I lived in an area of the NYC suburbs where I could rarely receive his station's UHF signal over the air, so I missed his broadcast show.  One of his later (non-TV) performances came up on my feed, and he was funny.  (The tune he played was much like Benny Bell's "Shaving Cream", where the song's rhymes imply a "dirty word" would be used at the end of the next sentence, but replaced by something else - in Bell's case, the words "Shaving Cream".

As you can see, it's work staying sane in the USA these days.  It's even harder for us in the LGBTIQ community.  This is no longer the country I was born in to.  And I feel sad that I might have to leave, as I don't want to be among those rounded up by the Snowflake's ICE Gestapo.

Wednesday, February 4, 2026

It's hard not to get upset watching the news these days.

Lately, the Orange Snowflake has shown signs of declining mental facility.  In short, his senility is getting worse, and no one is willing to take the risk of removing him from power under the terms of the 25th amendment.

- - - - - -

Each time I watch the news, I have to be careful not to watch it too closely.  The snowflake and his actions seem to monopolize the news.  And I have to be careful not to watch too many YouTube videos, lest I get angry and "howl at the moon."  I have to turn away each time I hear his voice, as the mere sound of him sickens me.  (Thankfully, his niece distorts his voice whenever she plays a video clip of him speaking.)

Today, reporters mentioned that he rambled on for 2 hours, repeating his old "hits", threatening both military and trading partners, and looking like a lunatic that should be in a padded room.  Unfortunately, he's free and many minorities aren't - they live in fear of his ICE Gestapo.  (My friend from the imaging company is married to someone who doesn't look "Aryan", and fears him being alone in his car and getting pulled over in an ICE raid.)  I try to think of these things as little as possible, as I know that I can only deal with so much crap that upsets me during any given day.

When I watch the news, I try to find a network affiliate's local news on YouTube.  In a half-hour, I am able to keep up with local events that concern me, and look for more information when I need it.  (I found this approach to be useful when a fire burned down 4 buildings a block away from RQS's place.)  The biggest benefit to this approach is that local news usually doesn't cover national events.

- - - - - -

I can'r wait for this national disaster to end.  Hopefully, it will be soon.

MLK jr. Day (it's starting to become a day for store sales)

Years ago, the United States made Martin Luther King Jr. day a national holiday.  There was a lot of resistance to this, given the racial history of this country.  Yet, the holiday has endured, and most people accept it as part of our yearly calendar.  Sadly, we have a president who would eliminate this holiday if he could, and return this country to the 1950's. Or worse, to Germany in the 1930's.

- - - - - -

RQS and I had two things on the docket for the day: (1) Getting her watch band resized, and (2) Going to Costco to get a second arm rest tray on which she could place her glasses and phone.  While at the jewelry store, I asked to get my watch band fixed, and found out that my watch was as good as dead.  (It didn't help that I hadn't used my automatic/self winding watch in ages.

It was nice to be out as Marian again.  And going to Costco required me to present as Marian, as my ID card has my feminine image.  So, once we left the jewelry store, it was off to the Zwilling factory outlet to shop for knives - where RQS bought some to add to her kitchen supply.  And finally, we were off to Costco.

It took a while for us to get to Yonkers, as I ended up taking the side roads to get there.  The parking lot was busy, and it took a while to find a good spot.  Well, we ended up walking all around the store, found the items we wanted, and left the store 45 minutes later.

On the way home, we chatted with TCL a bit, and came home to relax.  Before we retired for the evening, we watched the film, Operation Mincemeat - a serious take on the real life mission.

- - - - - -

Tomorrow, RQS goes home, and I go back to seeing friends for lunch and dinner.  At least, I should be able to do my nails again and keep the polish on for the better part of a week.

PS: After a few minutes of shaking the watch to recharge the internal battery, the watch started to keep time again, and I knew that all I needed was a fixed watch band.

I can't believe it! (a short post)

I can't believe it.  The Orange Snowflake has taken Venezuela's dictator into American custody without legal authority. Only congress can authorize America to go to war against another country, but the snowflake has usurped congress's authority and has said that the constitution doesn't apply to him.  This reminds me of Germany's aggression towards its neighboring states prior to the beginning of WW2 in 1939. The big question is: What Comes Next?

Sadly, if congress wants to take back its powers, it will need to remove the current speaker of the house. The man has no problem genuflecting at the altar of the snowflake, and has never resisted anything demanded by the snowflake.  I doubt this will happen, as many in the GOP are afraid of what the snowflake can do.  Instead, many in the GOP are retiring from Congress, leaving it up to the remaining party to find candidates who can win.  Only one problem - the party's reputation is so bad, that even hard-core GOP voters may vote against the party to stop the snowflake - if meaningful elections are held later this year.

Sadly, we haven't yet seen enough people in the GOP willing to challenge the snowflake. As a result, he keeps taking the powers that the constitution prohibits him from having. As this happens, we're seeing an erosion of our civil and human rights happen in real time.  For example, many naturalized citizens now carry their passports with them at all times, hoping that proof of citizenship will keep them from being incarcerated in an ICE raid.  Unfortunately, US citizens are being gathered up in these raids, and have been deported "by mistake."

(Passport Photo Example - Not the one I hope to have.)

Hopefully, the paperwork for my foreign birth registry will be processed before things in the US get too bad for me.  Then, I will apply for (and get) my second passport and be able to exit the US if/when needed.  These are scary times, and I'm afraid of what will happen here in the next year or two.  So, if you don't live here, don't come here until things change.

Getting ready for my next cruise.

The above is far from my favorite cruise itinerary.  This is a route I've sailed twice before: once with XGFJ, and once as a solo traveler. Both cruises are best forgotten, albeit for different reasons.

- - - - - -

When I last cruised this route (albeit to another cruise line's private island), it was the worst cruise I ever sailed on.. There is "no there there" for Port Canaveral, and the only reason that I got off the ship there was to go to the Kennedy Space Center.  (I'm surprised that the Orange Snowflake hasn't yet named it the "Trump - Kennedy Space Center".😆)

Next is Nassau. The first time I was here, following a disappointing trip on a glass bottomed boat, XGFJ and I walked around the port area a little bit and got bored.  Since I am not into beaches, I'd get bored going here again.

And finally, there is the cruise line's private island.  Great Stirrup Cay was a disappointment when I was there, as there was no dock for the ship.  Everyone had to use tender boats to go between the island and the ship, and I didn't bother going to the island with XGFJ.  She wasn't that happy with the snorkel experience she had, as the water was churned up too much to get a clear view of the underwater life.  To make things worse, the tender boat had a hard time returning to the ship due to high winds.  (Although I've seen evidence that the new pier for this island is finally available, I still see little gain by visiting this place.)

- - - - - -

So, why did I choose this cruise?

It was the cheapest way I could find for RQS and I to spend a week together and to see whether I'll consider cruising on NCL again for cruises other than the Bermuda run from NYC and for the 7-night Hawaii run from Honolulu.  Many people have reported that NCL now has the feel of a cruise line that nickel-dimes too much.  My impression has been that post-pandemic cruising has a much different feel (and I'm not referring to health related changes) than the pre-pandemic cruises that made NCL a go-to cruise line for me.

Will we have been spoiled too much by Cunard and Princess to choose NCL in the future?  Who knows? But I know that there are only a limited number of cruises that NCL offers that I want to take.  Without being able to get self-service laundry onboard, I will avoid taking cruises longer than a week on this line. (The free laundry bag provided to Platinum, Sapphire, Diamond and Ambassador status is a little too small to clean most garments other than undergarments and socks.)

I may have outgrown NCL as a go-to cruise line.  But I'm glad to know that I still have good cruises ahead of me on other lines.

It's hard to believe that this year passed so quickly!

The image of a hurricane from space.  It seems like a fitting metaphor for this chaotic year.  We went from relative calmness, steered by a caretaker president, to a lunatic who is steering us into the middle of a global storm.

For a transgender person in the United States, we were the first targets of Trump's hatred.  He tried to erase us from history - even at the Stonewall Memorial site.  Yet, he has failed to silence us and force us into the closet.  Although people like me are staying in stealth mode when we interact with the Federal Government, others are openly challenging this corrupt administration.  We were the canaries in the coal mine.  Next, he targeted women, people of color (I hate that phrase), anyone who looks Latino (they were in the Southwest before the Anglos), and now anyone who stands up to oppose him.

Yet, life has gone on as normal for many people, save that they have to make hard choices because of our president's foolish actions: pay rent, pay for food, or pay for medical care.  Everything has gone up in price for the average person, and yet, the president claims that "Affordability" is a hoax created by the Democratic party.

What many people aren't seeing yet is the debasement of the legal system.  Promises to deport the criminals among the "undocumented" (I call them illegal aliens, as am not politically correct) have been broken, and now it's a numbers game to round up as many of these (generally) law abiding people as possible, herd then into prison camps without the rights to challenge their detentions, and then shipping them off to places such as El Salvador's CECOT, where these people are treated worse than most farm animals.  The DOJ is trying a third time to indict James Comey, simply because he did his job and investigated the crimes committed by Trump.

Fortunately, people are waking up. It's hard to believe, but even MTG is now on the president's shit list because she opposed him on releasing the Epstein Files.  In special elections held recently, the Democratic party has over-performed.  The snowflake knows if we have a fair election, the GOP would lose big time.  Even if the election is rigged slightly, they have no guarantee of winning in the general election.  I'm sure that my congress critter will be voted out - he has done nothing for his district, save make meaningless promises.

Sadly, I've had to stay in stealth mode when taking cruises this year.  Normally, I'd present as Mario when sailing to the Caribbean.  For convenience, I'd have sailed as Mario when we went to Alaska.  But I'd have sailed as Marian when going to Bermuda and on the New England/Canada run had the snowflake not weaponized branches of the government to terrorize people.

Sometime late next year, I'll be filing to renew my passport and my global entry card.  I wonder what that process will be like, considering what he's already planning to do with ESTA applications which foreigners must submit before coming to the US.  (I'm appalled that we may soon be demanding to know foreign tourists' Social Media history and all Email addresses used in the past 5 years.)  What will his henchmen dream up to limit what US Citizens can do, especially their right to leave the country.

Earlier this year, I applied to be registered in a foreign nation's foreign birth registry.  If things get really bad here for transgender people, I will marry RQS and take her to Europe with me, hoping that I can bring enough financial resources with me to start a new life there.

It's amazing - in less than a year, America has changed from a democratic republic into a fascist state.  Hopefully, we'll see this change soon....

What a difference a few years can make.

It's been about 12-13 years now that I've been going out in public as Marian.  I've cruised as Marian and have flown as Marian.  However, things changed in January 2025 when the Orange Snowflake took power.  Now, I'm careful NOT to interact with any employee of the Federal Government presenting as Marian, as I can't trust anyone in the Federal Government to respect my rights as a human being, much less a trans person.

The other day, I received an email from a pen pal in Canada.  She said that if she knew that I was going to be on a cruise with one of her other friends, that she'd have made the effort to be on the same cruise as well.  If a Democrat had been elected last year, I'd have felt no qualms about taking my next cruise as Marian.  However, I'm playing it safe by presenting as Mario.  So, I will avoid meeting this fellow, as I would avoid meeting my pen pal on the ship.

It's sad to think that it's not just transgenders that are under attack.  It's anyone who doesn't fit the snowflake's Aryan idea of what an American should be.  He calls countries such as Haiti, Somalia, and Iran as "Shit Holes", and hates people from these countries because they are not Aryan.  Even when people have assimilated into American life, he'd deny them the opportunity to become full fledged Americans simply because of their race and nation of origin.  If the man hadn't so much evil and hatred in his heart, I'd almost feel sorry for him.  Stress the word "Almost" here, because he's one of the few men I can't say a good word about.

I'm glad that some Republicans are finally feeling safe enough to start challenging the snowflake.  But that doesn't affect my level of respect for any of them - they haven't earned any yet.  If a bully were to choose 1 victim out of 101 people, 50 would side with the bully out of fear, 49 would hold their coats and say nothing, leaving only one person who'd help the victim.  I hope that I'd be that 1 person who'd help the victim, even if I had to go "all-in" to do so.  Since 99 of the remaining 100 would not help the victim, I have no respect for them, as I have no respect for any of the GOP members who Kow-Towed to to the snowflake or ignored the victim's cries for help.

Sadly, all I can do is talk today.  I am not willing to be a sacrifice on the altar of the snowflake.  But if things get worse, I will try and help others avoid his wrath.  I don't know what will happen if things get worse, but I will try to be prepared, as well as having an escape route if I need one myself.

Eastern Caribbean Cruise 2025 - St.Lucia (12/04/25)

St. Lucia.  It's a tender port for this ship, and we decided not to go onshore with the heat and humidity outside.  Instead, we decided to get up late and go for lunch again.

RQS noted that this ship is frequented by a more educated clientele, more world traveled than the cruisers we have met when sailing other cruise lines.  For example, on one of our recent Princess cruises, RQS met a man wearing a MAGA hat, and couldn't wait to get away from him.  On a line most frequented by Americans, some people think that they can offend others by wearing political slogans and symbols that are divisive in nature.  Contrast this with Cunard, where virtually all the people we have met are well educated and have enough social skills to be able to be polite with people who disagree with them.

At lunch, we were seated at a shared table with 3 other couples.  All were well educated, and one gentleman (a former Republican mayor of a town in New Jersey) and I were having a pleasant point-counterpoint discussion of current affairs.  Although we didn't agree with each other regarding America's current parallels with past history, we enjoyed learning from each other.  Unlike many in the GOP, he is not a fan of the Orange Snowflake, and he understands the damage this man has done to our country.  Too bad that I will be unable to keep contact with this gentleman after this cruise - I could learn a lot from him.

At dinner, another couple from Scotland chatted us up.  We enjoyed the chat, but found it hard to hear them with the noise reflected from the surfaces in the restaurant.  Afterwards, we went to the ship's theater to see a performer, Katie Clarke, perform on the piano.  She was good.  But we had to leave before the show ended - neither of us could risk waiting for elevators tonight.

It was a nice day.  But we know that days like this will end soon - the ship is now returning to New York with its cold weather.  Hopefully, any snow left on my car will have melted by then.

I'm starting to pack for my upcoming cruise

I miss being able to cruise as Marian.  The Orange Snowflake is out to erase transgenders from the earth, claiming "it is all in our heads."  One problem - it is easier to change the body than to rewire the brain.  And even if it could be done, should it be done?  When the person who holds the presidency has no morality, no sense of justice, and no respect for others, then how can anyone cis or trans feel safe?

Safety for us trans people is important.  For those like me, we can go stealth and not worry much - but we still have our worries.  When presenting as a male, my whiteness helps keep me safe from the ICE raids going on in neighboring towns.  So, if I have to make contact with anyone from the Federal Government, I've decided to do so as a white male and assert my "privilege". This is not real safety.  I've been hassled by a TSA Officer before flying to London, simply because he had a bug up his ass.  Could you imagine what he'd have been like if I were presenting as a female for an international flight?

I remind people that Cisgender people are not safe.  The husband of one of my friends is an immigrant from the Philippines. He is not white, but he is a male US Citizen who has communications issues.  He lives in a town which has suffered ICE raids, and my friend (his wife) fears what could happen if he goes out during one of these raids. He could not advocate effectively for himself.  Given that we have deported US citizens caught in one of these ICE roundups, do you think he'd be safe.

RQS is a fair skinned black, somewhere in the mocha shade of skin tone.  She'd likely be tolerably safe, as she has an "American" accent. And that relative safety would likely extend to many "American Blacks" who speak with an "American" accent familiar to many ICE agents.  But that doesn't extend to their initial treatment by these "authorities", as there has been a different standard of justice for whites and blacks in America. I must note that Asian Americans may have similar treatment to American Blacks, but would be subject to similar risk factors.  Yet, even if I were a second or third generation Chinese American, would I feel safe if ICE was raiding a Chinatown neighborhood as they recently did in New York City?

The promise of the Orange Snowflake was to round up the criminals who were in the US illegally and deport them first.  Instead, he is aiming for quantity over quality, scooping up law abiding people (here legally or illegally) to make artificial quotas.  So, a wise gender nonconforming person can not feel safe in a society where every touch point with the Federal Government puts her/him at risk.

So, I've started my packing, and I'm disappointed that I won't be able to wear my summer dresses again. But, I still wouldn't do so on this cruise, as many of the islands in the Caribbean have similar backwards attitudes as our president.  I'll still be relatively comfortable and safe, but I won't be as happy as if I could present as my true self.

Soon, I'll be going on a cruise ...again.

This year, I'll have spent over a month of my time at sea.  My last cruise for the year is coming up soon, and I'll be on a "new" ship (for us) with RQS.   Unlike all of the other ships we've been on, the Queen Mary 2 sails for a cruise line known for its formality.  It'll be a new cruise experience for us, and I hope we'll enjoy it.

- - - - - -

As I write this, it is close to freezing outside.  I'm not sure if I want to bother getting dressed and taking care of errands.  The temperature will be lower than normal for the rest of the week, and I have things booked towards the weekend.  This means that I'll be looking for all my cold weather clothing, and hoping that I have enough of it available when I need it.

It'll be relatively easy for me to pack for my upcoming cruise, as I will be presenting as Mario while on the cruise.  It's simpler for me to dress as Mario, as the only thing that changes will be the number of layers I need to wear.  But I wish I could have gone on this cruise as Marian.  Even if we had sane politics in the US right now, I'd be in the Caribbean where cultural norms aren't as progressive as they are in the US.

I'm thinking of giving RQS a winter cruise for Xmas.  Although we'd sail several weeks later, I'd want it to be a surprise.  One catch: As much as I don't like the itinerary, it'd be the last chance I'd get to sail on an MSC ship before they abandon the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal for a new home port in Florida.  Hopefully, we'll see MSC return some day, as well as seeing the terminal expand to handle two ships at the same time.

- - - - - -

If all goes right, the year 2026 will have us taking 3 cruises.  But, as soon as we're done with our last cruise, I'll start the process of both renewing my passport and my global entry registration (Trusted Traveler ID), so that I can take my 2027 cruises without worrying if there is enough time on my passport to schedule a cruise.

Ideally, I'd be able to travel as Marian, with a passport that identifies me as Marian.  But that is not likely to happen soon.  RQS still wants Mario as a partner (even though she's comfortable with me presenting as Marian.)  And in today's political climate, it makes sense for me to stay in stealth mode when I have to deal with any employee of the Federal Government.

Since I rant about the Orange Snowflake and his fascist regime too often, I'll stay away from politics today, save for the "in passing" references in this entry. I'm more concerned about how I'll dress when I get home from my next cruise, as we will want to take the ferry from Red Hook to either the Atlantic Avenue or Williamsburg ferry stops before summoning an Uber.  I maintain my sanity by maintaining my freedom to travel - by any means necessary.  Hopefully, I'll be able to complete the process of getting an EU passport (I won't say which country yet) before this time next year, as this will be my "Get Out of Jail Free" card if I need one.

Needing to get out of the house (a short post)

It always seems that both RQS and I always end up doing some serious relaxing when we're together.  Yesterday (as I write this), RQS a...
