A nice way to end restaurant week.

RQS and I had only one thing on our docket today: A Restaurant Week dinner at Le Provençal Bistro,  I've eaten here before with Vicki, and loved the food.  This would be my first time here with RQS, and I knew she'd be impressed.

- - - - - -

We didn't get moving until late morning, and putzed around most of the day.  However, I had a phone call to make - I had to call the co-op board president and develop a game plan for our next meeting.  We have 4 applicants looking to buy apartments in our complex, and have to find the time to interview them all.  In addition, we have other issues that need discussion, and we have to fit everything into a 4 hour block.

Once done with the co-op business, my GI tract decided to act up.  Luckily, I still had enough time to get showered, made up, and dressed, so that we could make a 6 pm dining time.  Unlike RQS who decided to wear slacks, I decided to wear a nice casual sweater dress for dinner. We were able to get out the door by 5:15, leaving us enough time to fill the car up with gas, and still make it to Mamaroneck on time.

Arriving at the restaurant at 6, it seemed to take forever to have our order taken. Service was slow and spotty, as I expect that one of the servers was not able to make it for the last day of Restaurant Week (an always busy time before Holiday Season).  However, this was balanced by the excellent food in front of us.  RQS had the Salmon Tartare, while I had the Garlic Sausage for appetizers, then both of us had Mussels for a main course, followed by chocolate mousse tarts for dessert.  Both of us would go back here again.  But the next time we do, it will be for a special dinner.

When we got home, I behaved like a typical woman - I couldn't wait to take off my bra.  As I've mentioned before, I'm very comfortable in my female presentation, and have no problems going out in the NYC metropolitan area as a woman.  Hopefully, I'll be again able to travel the USA in the future as a woman, and go back to "Cruising Pretty" soon.

It was Mario's day out. (A short post)

A financial issue with the co-op forced me to go out as Mario this afternoon (Wednesday).  I was asked to move a small amount of money from our savings account and wire it to our operating account.  This would allow us to make a payment from the operating account that had to take place by the end of the week. Unlike most days, I didn't mind so much going out as Mario, as I had several errands of my own to take care of as Mario.  So, when the president of the co-op called me while she was away, I used this essential excursion to the bank as Mario to also pick up a suit from the cleaners and a blazer from the tailor.

My first stop was at the bank, where I performed the wire transfer.  And then, it was off to the cleaners to pick up my suit.  This stop took more time than expected, as my car had just downloaded an update to its software, and I had to give it 10 minutes to complete after the download.  So, this was a perfect excuse to have a slice of pizza before picking up the suit.  Fifteen minutes later, I was back in the car (with my suit), and off to the tailors to pick up my blazer.

Once I had everything in hand, I drove to BJ's for a shopping expedition.  Although there may have been 1 or 2 items that I might not have needed right now, I figured that I'll eventually use these paper plates as my old stash runs out.

I can't believe someone would let an apartment get this bad (a short post)

The above pictures are of a hoarder's apartment that my co-op will have auctioned off by the time you read this post.  Several years ago, we became aware that this person wasn't paying his rent, nor did he keep his apartment in habitable shape.

A few years ago, we had to enter his apartment, in order to deal with a leak that affected the apartment below this person's apartment.  We found the place in a total mess (much worse than this), and had to pay someone to clean out enough of the place in order for the plumbers to do their work.  Over the years, we have tried to find the owner to serve him notice that he either had to pay the co-op the money owed to is, or surrender his shares in the co-op.  It wasn't until the Spring of this year that we were able to send him the appropriate notice, and that we could put the apartment up for auction to recover our uncollected maintenance fees.

As you can see, this place is not habitable at the moment.  As I see it, one would have to do a total clean out of the apartment, and then strip out everything in the kitchen and bathroom just to get started.  Molding and trim work in the place would need to be replaced, floors sanded and refinished, walls repainted, as well as other work needed to replace fixtures in the apartment.

I can't see someone living in the apartment as it was when the plumbers first needed entry, nor can I see someone living in this apartment until a major cleanup and rehab is done to it.  SJM thinks it needs $30k-$50k worth of work to make it habitable, and thinks we should simply clean it up and sell it as-is.  As for me, I feel we can't do anything about this apartment until more pressing affairs are taken care of, and only then can we make decisions on what to do next if the place doesn't sell at auction.  We'll see what happens at month-end when the auction is held.

It was nice to take out my leather jacket again.

I'll always wish I could look like the female version of my face in the picture above.  She looks happy and secure in herself.  No matter how much I try, I can never snap my fingers and be the cisgender female version of who I could have been if I were born with two X chromosomes. At least, if I can improve my health by losing some weight, I could get some facial feminization surgery and make my face look more like an older version of the woman above.

- - - - - -

Today, I did nothing for most of the day, even though I got dressed early in the afternoon.  I originally thought that I might go into NYC and see an Off-Broadway play.  But I didn't want to get moving early enough to do so.  Instead, I decided to leave the house around dinner time and looked in my closet for something warm to wear - and found a leather jacket I haven't worn in years.  So, I put it on and went out the door.

My first stop was at Mickey D's for a couple of burgers, and then to BJ's to walk around.  $42 later, I was loading my car and driving home.  On the way home, I returned the call from our co-op's president, and we discussed some things that needed to be done. And all too soon, I was home, stripping off my stockings, my dress, my bra, and everything that a woman would find uncomfortable after a day at work. (This, even though I haven't had a job in years.)

Once comfortable, I signed some papers for the co-op, then put some ribs in the slow cooker for tomorrow's dinner.  (I may bring some cooked ribs to RQS's place this weekend if I'm in the mood to do so.)  And finally, I was able to rest for the night.

Now that I'm back from my cruise, it's time to catch up on things.

Now that I'm back at home, there was a lot waiting for me at my doorstep.  First, there was a large packet of held mail.  And then, were the packages waiting for me that were delivered while I was away.  And now, I'm thinking of what I have to catch up on before I go away again.

- - - - - -

While I was away, I read something in the NY Times and Washington Post in regard to Transgender Youth treatment by medical organizations.  Seems like the Orange Snowflake is violating HIPAA rules to get access to personal information regarding these children.  To make things worse, it seems like they plan to force these children to go through "Conversion Therapy."  (I can only wonder how many of these children will commit suicide if forced into this kind of inhumane treatment.)  If of any readers knows of any transgender children receiving treatment, now is the time to get them out of the US by any means possible.

I know one woman whose child is TG.  She's working on getting him German citizenship to protect him from the US government, with the idea of leaving the US and having his TG status protected by a democratic government.  I personally know one child who is receiving psychiatric care for being TG.  If needed, I will help this family bring the child to a foreign nation, so that the child will not be harmed by forced conversion therapy.

- - - - - -

Paying bills is always a chore.  However, I only had 5 bills to pay, and none of them were yet due.  So $660 later, I owe nothing to any bank - and my used credit is zero.  (Mind you, I'd probably have a better credit rating if I paid my bills between the billing dates and the due dates.  But I hate thinking about credit cards, when I treat them as cash for most purchases.)

Normally, I have a charge pending on one of my credit cards after a cruise.  On this cruise, I had a truck load of refundable and non-refundable cruise credits, and spent them down to within a nickel of exhausting them all.  When we take our next cruise, we'll have even more refundable cruise credits which we do not intend to spend.  This way, the money we got back for taking a "move over" cruise will end up in our pockets, and not in the cruise line's tills.

- - - - - -

Given that we only had 3 days of dirty clothes left from our cruise, I was able to unpack my large suitcase and carry-on, and be mostly packed for our next cruise.  (I'll take the laundered clothes and repack them when I'm next at RQS's place.)  It's nice to be able to do one's laundry on a cruise ship on a sea day.  How many times can one go to the buffet, ice cream shop or onboard movies before one has the itch to spend money?

Since I like NOT sending my laundry to the onboard (expensive) laundry service, I probably will keep cruising on Princess's ships, as their low-keyed attempts to pick a cruiser's pockets (and deliver value) is more my style of cruise line I like to cruise with.  Even though I get a free bag of laundry on NCL, the small size of their bags make it impossible to come back home without an overly large amount of laundry to clean.

- - - - - -

Tomorrow, I have to run a few errands.  I'll finally be back in Marian mode for the first time in over 2 weeks.  The next day, I'll see my doctor (who will read me the riot act for weight gained on this cruise), and I'll finally get the chance to have my nails done before going on our next cruise.  It's so nice to be able to spend the money to pamper one's self with a Mani-Pedi in a local salon.

- - - - - -

RQS gained 5 pounds while on the cruise.  I expect that they will go away with getting back to normal eating habits.  But it is something we'll have to watch out for while we're on our next cruise.  (I guess I'll have to stop eating as much rich food as I became accustomed to on the ship.)

- - - - - -

Of course, I expect that I will need to deal with both Co-Op related  business and family homestead related business.  I have been out of touch with both the co-op management corporation and the co-op president, as well as my brother (for the family homestead).  I expect to be dealing with some interesting issues when I'm considered back in the real world.

We would have been leaving on our cruise today

If all had gone to our original plan, we'd be on a ship headed for Nova Scotia.  However, we took a "Move Over" offer, and got a free cruise out of the deal.  (How often does a cruise get overbooked?  I don't know, but I'm glad that an offer was made to me to take another cruise for free as our compensation for the change in plans.)

So what did we plan to do instead?

We figured that we would leave for Mystic, CT for 3 mid-week days, and take a trip with me in Marian mode.  However, the hot weather forecast for the rest of the week made this trip impractical.  So, I suggested we cancel our reservations, and put the trip off until it is "cooler" outside.  Now, we're hanging out in the apartment in the flimsiest of jammies we own.

- - - - - -

Co-op business keeps getting in the way.  We had a legal issue that required the use of an attorney, and several board members treat their responsibilities as something that will occupy their time 3 hours per month.  The president of the board is getting tired, and I won't take on her responsibilities.  When the president asked for approvals during the day, I had to text some of the board, so that a majority approved using the attorney.  This is a familiar pattern of behavior, and we're tired of people who don't take up their share of the burden of running this place.

Once I get the co-op's ATM card, I will apply for a domain name for the co-op's web site.  (I will not publish it here.)  Hopefully, we will have people interested enough to write newsletters to send out, and for the co-op site to be a repository for them.  I figure that once I've used the co-op's needs to learn the basics, then I can start working on my other blog's domain name.

Financial stuff by day, with an open afternoon and evening.

The above sign was posted through London (from what I recall from history books) throughout "The Blitz".  It is something that we should keep in mind today, as the implied message is: "You have no control of when your number is up. So focus on the here and now, instead of worrying about the future."  In an age where our media wants us to live in fear, so they can have more eyeballs and ears, it's hard to keep our focus on the present.  But that's what I had to do with issues facing the co-op, and with issues affecting me as a transgender person.

Today started out with a meeting with a representative from our lender, as we look to deal with issues resulting from problems which occurred last year.  We were prepared for the worst, but the meeting went better than expected.  There is a good way to deal with our issue, and I expect that we'll finally see some movement on things soon.

Next up was a phone call to the lab testing company.  Two weeks ago, my doctor ordered some blood tests, and I received a bill for them.  After making the call, I found out that the doctor's office keeps supplying incorrect information to the lab, and that they keep billing the wrong insurance carrier.  The billing problem has been fixed with the lab test company.  But now, I have to hector the doctor's office to get things straight when they send things off to the lab test company, as the doctor's office keeps overwriting information I have corrected each time they order a lab test.

After taking care of morning activities, put on a dress (with leggings) and went on a Costco and Stew Leonard's shopping run.  It was a good way to waste some time.  But it was not a good way to stay frugal.  At least, I got a year's supply of AA and AAA batteries out of the trip....

A visit to the doctor and a zoom with the girls.

Although my doctor only sees me looking like the image on the left, my Texas friends have only seen me looking like the image on the right. Today was a half-and-half day for me, and I hated looking like the fellow on the left when I'd rather look like the "girl" on the left.  But then, Alfred, like Bugs Bunny was not afraid of putting on a dress when it is called for.

- - - - - -

Today started with me not getting enough sleep overnight.  I was running on 3-4 hours of sleep when I woke up, and it didn't make sense for me to go back to sleep before going to the doctor's office at 9:45 am.  As expected, the doctor was running a little late, and I could have arrived at 10 am without losing any time.  However, with this visit, I saw my doctor relatively quickly (for him) and had the chance to tell him about the problem I've been having with my leg and the problem I've been having with my GI-Tract.

With the doctor's visit out of the way, I got a bite to eat and went home to take a nap.  Even though I woke up around 1:00 pm/1:30 pm or so, I didn't bother going out again before the zoom meeting with my Texas friends.  This was just as well, as I had some co-op business dropped on my lap, and I had to sign a document which would allow us to start negotiating the final cost for something previously required by our bank.

Around 7:00 pm, I got dressed as Marian and prepared to start the zoom around 8:00 pm.  Now, I wasn't in the mood to talk a lot, as I was still tired.  But I wasn't going to cancel things for tonight, as I don't want to get into that habit.  My Texas friends came on first, followed by RQS.  We caught up on what is going on in each others' lives, and the zoom lasted longer than usual.  Around 10:20 pm, we ended the meeting, and I went out to CVS to pick up some stuff.  While driving, I made my nightly call to RQS and we caught up on each other's day.  I mentioned to RQS that when I mentioned the possibility of our friends visiting NYC, that it wasn't shot down out of hand.  RQS noticed it too.  But I'd rather see them in a city like Chicago, Philadelphia or Boston, where all of us would have to travel to get there.

- - - - - -

All in all, this wasn't as bad a day as it could have been.  If a friend didn't cancel dinner for tonight, I'd have had no emotional energy left to enjoy the zoom with our friends.  So, things worked out for the best after all.

Game Night - Finally, an evening out as Marian!

Now that I'm back in New York, I can finally get back outside as Marian.  Yay!  I was starting to get very tired of wearing trousers....

- - - - - -

This morning, I woke up early and took it easy most of the day.  While relaxing, I received a message from the president of the co-op, asking me to move some money from our savings account to our operating account.  This will allow us to start a property improvement that our resident shareholders will notice.  However, I had to instruct the site representative about the scheduling of this work, as I didn't want to take the risk that my building's work would be delayed until I was away.  Luckily, I was able to get this fixed.  Rank does have its privileges.

While thinking of the co-op, I've had a problem sending messages to the co-op's board members.  One member's email address changed. Yet, my system had continued to send email to her old address.  It took me an hour to resolve this Gmail problem, and I did it the brute force way - I deleted her entry in my address book, edited the email list, and did all sorts of things until I got it working right.  Yay!

- - - - - -

Shortly after visiting the bank to transfer co-op money, I got some lunch from Mickey D's and sat down at my computer for a while.  I paid some bills and sorted out paperwork needed to get my dad's birth certificate.  Unfortunately, I had a GI Tract issue which required some cleanup.  I found out that I hated the mop I was using, and decided to replace it when I had the chance.

A little later, I drove to Game Night, and had a good time.  Today was different than usual - I was on the winning team for the two games I had the chance to play.  All too soon, the night had to end.  But I had one more stop to make - the supermarket.  And that's where I bought a new mop, as well as some food which we could eat over the weekend.

All in all, it was a good day, in spite of the mess I had to clean up.

Co-Op business and a trip to the store

I didn't want to start moving to go outside.  The weather forecast was terrible, and I didn't feel like getting dressed.  However, I had an exercise dress waiting at Macy's for me to pick up, and I didn't want to waste any time.

- - - - - -

Around 2:00 pm, I received an email from my co-op's president, telling the board about some issues people were having with our managing agent. (No, I won't go into any details here for privacy concerns.)  But this triggered my need to check in with her, resulting in a set of questions we need answered by our site representative, and a task for this person to take care of.

Next, I called my doctor's receptionist, and she established an account for me on their system.  Although I am connected, I can not yet send messages to the doctor via this portal.  Luckily, I'll be speaking with the receptionist again this week, as I have to schedule another appointment with the doctor (as well as scheduling a liver scan at Northwell's local office).

Now, I was ready to prepare to go to the store.  But I lallygagged a little, and it wasn't until 6:00 pm that I decided to go into the shower.  By the time I was ready to go out, it was raining.  But I didn't know hard it was raining until I got to the front door.  In for a penny, in for a pound - and I was out the door in the pouring rain.  Things got even worse, as my car's accident prevention system couldn't see through the pouring rain.  If I made it to Macy's by 8:00 pm, I'd pick up my dress.  If not, at least I was driving slow and safe.

I arrived at Macy's around 7:40 pm, and the rain had eased off a little.  10 minutes later, I was out of the store, and the rain started up again.  So I drove home slowly and safely.  By the time I got home, the rain had eased off again, so I wasn't soaking wet as I got in my door.  But this is a trip I should have  deferred until the morning, and will do so next time it's raining this hard.

- - - - - -

On other matters, I was originally scheduled to see DCD tonight for dinner.  Now that he's late in making his monthly car payment, he is avoiding me.  Since I know that his car is off the road due to his actions, it serves him right to try to make it home in this rain via public transit.  Karmic justice....

Seeing work finally getting done

Several years ago, a former co-op board member reported that the retaining wall behind her building had failed, and that it needed repair.  We were in the middle of a financial crisis, as we were digging out from a heavy debt load and would have higher priorities until we refinanced the complex. This board member has since left the co-op, selling off al of her shares, and no longer has any interest in the complex.  However, the issue of the retaining wall remained.

Although we refinanced the co-op a year or two ago, gaining the funds to pay for this project, we hadn't been able to start it due to issues I am not at liberty to cover here.  This delay caused the repair work being done on the retaining wall to become a higher priority for us, and we were able to break through the log jam to solicit bids, approve a contractor and get work started.  A couple of weeks ago, we saw the delivery of materials needed to start work on this project.  I'd bet that the people whose parking spots were affected by the delivery of this material had their complaints, but I think they were also glad to see that work would finally be getting done on this project.

- - - - - -

Getting this work done was one of my highest priorities, as I know what happens when infrastructure maintenance is deferred.  Too long of a delay will cause things to fall apart, causing repairs (or replacements) to become even more expensive.  Yes, I have been a voice for spending more money when many of the people in my complex (like myself) are living on fixed incomes.

Sooner or later, everyone has to take care of some form of deferred maintenance - to one's property, or to one's health.  I guess it's now the season the season to do this....

Only two things to do today, and it was easier to do as Mario

Today will be a very short entry.  I had two things to do today, and I ended up doing one of them in Mario Mode, as I had to be able to identify myself to a bank where the co-op has an account....

- - - - - -

Normally, the co-op president takes care of things when we need to move money between accounts at the bank, or to get a check drawn on one of these accounts.  However, the co-op president was otherwise occupied, and I decided to take care of things today.  So I got dressed as Mario, preparing to go out later as Marian, and proceeded to the bank.  Once done there, I delivered the check to its recipient, and went out to eat.

When I got back, I dealt with my laundry, only putting one load in the washer today.  Once the washing and drying was done, I brought the clothes back upstairs and decided not to go out anymore.  I figure that later on, I'll fold the laundry and start packing things for my upcoming trip as Marian.

As I said - not much to say....

A true "Bucket List" cruise.
